Arthur Galea Salomone, one of the leaders of the anti-divorce movement,  said today that now that the people had spoken the will of the majority had to be respected in the context of democracy.

Speaking at the counting hall in the Mediterranean Conference Centre,  Dr Galea Salomone said the role of his movement had been to inform the people, so that the people could take an informed decision.

The movement, he said, had done its duty.

He paid tribute to the members of his movement and of the Divorce Movement for having been civic minded and contributed to the campaign.

Personally, he said, he felt this was a positive, if intensive experience.

The anti-divorce movement said it respected the outcome of the referendum and he also thanked all those who had taken part in the referendum campaign, on either side.
