The Internal Audit and Investigation Department investigation into the expropriation deal of a Valletta property for which Mark Gaffarena got cash and land has been concluded and passed on to the Auditor General, Prime Minister Joseph Muscat said today.

Speaking on Dissett, Dr Muscat said that the case had shocked him and that was why he ordered an investigation.

The investigation report would be published once the National Audit Office investigation concluded its own investigation, he said. The government would revoke the deal if there were grounds for it to be revoked.

Dr Muscat said the investigation had extended to other cases going back several years.

Dr Muscat also spoke about a possible airstrip in Gozo, saying studies were nearly finalised “but this is not a priority at this point in time”.

Asked whether the government would be appealing from the court decision that the Ombudsman could investigate army complaints, Dr Muscat said that the government was holding talks with the Ombudsman and also considering an appeal. It preferred the first option. If a solution could be found, the government was willing to find it.

Dr Muscat also said in reply to another question that the White Rocks project would definitely be carried out.
