Libyan pro-democracy activists living in Malta yesterday publicly displayed their gratitude towards international supporters with a peaceful rally in Valletta.

Donned with British, American, French, EU and the Libyan monarchy flag, a group of around 40 Libyans, accompanied by other supporters including Maltese activists, marched towards St George’s Square.

“We are very thankful for the support we received from the Maltese,” a spokesman for the anti-Gaddafi group said, adding they extended their gratitude towards the US, UK, France, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates in particular.

Holding placards in Maltese, English and Arabic, the demonstrators chanted slogans in favour of French President Nicolas Sarkozy, British Prime Minister David Cameron and US President Barack Obama – as they cursed Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi.

“Enough is enough, and we will keep fighting for our freedom with your help,” an activist said, while holding a placard which read ‘Gaddafi wants us dead. You want us alive United Nations, Thank you.’
