The FXB Group this morning inaugurated a vertical axis wind turbine which is capable of producing four kilowatts of electricity as their first step towards being carbon neutral.

The wind turbine, which is practically silent, was inaugurated by Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi at the company’s factory in Xewkija.

The group is now in the process of replacing the factory’s lights to LEDs and it would then install a photovoltaic system.

Once all this is complete, it would be generating the same amount of energy it uses.

Speaking at the inaugurating, group managing director Joseph Borg said it was time to connect Malta and Gozo with a permanent road.

This, he said, would benefit everyone, especially Gozitans.

Dr Gonzi congratulated the group and said that manufacturing had to remain part of the Maltese economy.

He said the government was committed to improving accessibility to the island.
