Two faithful replicas of 24-pounder iron carronades, complete with two-wheeled garrison carriages now form part of the Malta Military Heritage Park at Lascaris, Valletta.

The carronades were purchased through the partnership agreement between Bank of Valletta and Fondazzjoni Wirt Artna. This afternoon, they were placed along the flanks of St Peter and St Paul Counterguard.

Carronades are short, smoothbore, cast iron cannons which were used by the Royal Navy.

They were produced by the Carron Company in Falkirk Scotland. They had a critical role to play - powerful, short range anti-ship and anti-crew weapons. Garrison mounts made them a versatile defence weapon for fortresses and harbours.
