A total of 303,000 euros are being allocated by the government to mitigate the co-financing burden from local councils and their association, Parliamentary Secretary Chris Said said this morning.

Launching the fund, he said that if councils made good use of it they would this year be able to benefit from three million euros from the EU.

In the past six weeks, 18 councils applied for EU funds - 15 of them in one application. Another 14 applications are expected to be submitted in the coming days.

The fund is to be managed by Department of Local Government.
