Last Sunday, the Malta Baseball & Softball Association (MABS), in collaboration with the Kunsill Malti għall-Isport, organised a successful baseball festival at the Marsa Sports Complex.

The highlight of the festival, in aid of Inspire Malta, was the Celebrity Softball Game. This was the first time such a softball game was held on the Maltese islands.

Renowned personalities like Moira Delia, Xandru Grech, David Ellul, and many other stars from Malta’s TV and music scene featured in the exhibition match in front of a sizeable crowd.

In the end, XFM’s Ozi team won with a two-point lead ending in the fifth inning. The celebrities were not the only ones showing off their skills as throughout the festival, the general public had the chance to take part in several softball games.

Children had the opportunity to test their throwing and batting skills during the event thanks to the pitchers’ nets and batting cages that were set up. Young boys and girls also tried their hands at teeball, an introductory sport to both baseball and softball.

Blastball, a fun and easy game intended for newcomers and young children, also proved popular on the day. Played with an electronic ‘honking’ base, a soft foam ball, a bat and tee, blastball is special because no one wins or loses.

Special edition baseballs were also sold during the event with the proceeds going to Inspire, the Foundation for Inclusion.

In a statement, the MABS organising committee expressed hope that Sunday’s successful festival will be the first of many charity events.

The committee thanked all the volunteers and the sponsors, namely the KMS, Methode Electronics, Alberta, Atlas Insurance, Castrol, Dark Dog, Express Trailers, Powerade, Sunshine Snacks, and T&H Distributors Ltd.
