Two Australian naval ships, HMAS Anzac and HMAS Endeavour, were given a full gun salute yesterday morning by the heritage organisation Fondazzjoni Wirt Artna as they entered Grand Harbour. The gun salute harks back to a tradition in which naval ships were greeted with gun fire from the Saluting Battery on their arrival and departure. It also marked the 100th anniversary of the Gallipoli landings in 1915, an event in which thousands of Australians, New Zealanders, Maltese, British, French and colonial troops took part.
