The corporation said these revisions reflected the prices fetched for the latest shipments of imported fuel. The March unleaded consignment was based on March Platts average levels, which were higher than January levels on which previous revisions were based.
With regards to the January diesel consignment, this was also based on March Platts average levels which were higher than November 09 levels on which previous revisions were based. In the past months, stabililty in diesel levels was brought about by a substantial purchase of diesel consignment in December.
Unfavourable movements in the exchange rate also contributed to the increase of the unleaded and diesel prices.
"Since January 2010, the euro has weakened from highs of $1.4563 to lows of $1.3353 in March 2010. Such exchange rate movements have been detrimental to Enemalta’s retail product purchases," the corporation said.
