The Opposition has presented a motion in Parliament urging the government to give an energy benefit bonus to everyone in view of the latest fuel and gas price increases. It also calls on the Malta Resources Authority to publish its workings on the gas prices.
The motion also calls on the government, constituted bodies and other stakeholders to hold talks on price stability in order to enable businesses and families to plan their budgets.
It was presented by Opposition whip Joe Mizzi
Earlier this week, the two gas suppliers announced prices which are lower than the prices established by the MRA.
The motion calls on the government to award an energy benefit bonus to everyone, in the same way as the government had found the money to raise the salaries of its ministers.
It also calls on the MRA to review its workings on the calculation of prices, in the interests of consumers.
Finally, the motion proposes the setting up of a parliamentary select committee to investigate the gas privatisation process and decisions which affect prices.
