The Netball League continued with two crucial matches from the top division. Fuego were confirmed as champions for another season thanks to their win over All Ages Eurochange.

Last week, the Malta Netball Association organised a coaching course by Gill Oliver, ex-England U-19 national coach.

A considerable number of participants took part in the course which mainly focused on training youths between the age of 12 and 16 years.

First Division

All Ages E'change 11
Fuego Champs 20

Both teams badly wanted to win this game for different reasons. Fuego Champs were eyeing victory to retain their title. On the other hand, All Ages were looking to force a decider against Fuego as a win for them last weekend would have put both sides on equal points.

The scoreline reflects a tactical match in which the players' character and experience played vital roles.

Fuego had 59 attempts at goal but managed to score 20 or 34 per cent compared to 34 by All Ages who netted only 11 (32 per cent).

The first quarter was won by All Ages 5-3.

In the final quarter, Fuego played for more ball possession, making it very difficult for All Ages to reach the shooting area.

In fact, All Ages only recorded four attempts at shot, scoring two while Fuego had a success rate of eight from 18 attempts.

As a result, Fuego assured themselves of winning not only the game but the second league title in a row unbeaten.

HSBC 32
Marsascala 35

HSBC are staring relegation in the face despite a spirited performance in this 35-32 upset to Marsascala. Having played at First Division level for so long, HSBC's campaign this season has been made more difficult due to injuries to some key players.

Marsascala were more consistent, faring much better than expected.

Having been promoted to the Division One at the start of the term, they are now placed third.

HSBC started well and won the first and last sessions 9-8 and 11-9 respectively. However, their early and final efforts were not enough to secure the two points as Marsascala won the second and third quarters with the identical score of 6-9.

Umpires: Sandra Farrugia, Tessie Bonello.
