Foreign Minister Tonio Borg has invited the newly elected French Speaker Claude Bartolone to visit Malta during a meeting at the National Assembly in Paris.

The invitation was made on behalf of Speaker Michael Frendo.

Dr Borg is the first foreign dignitary received by Mr Bartolone, whose mother is Maltese. They discussed the Arab Spring, in particular Libya and Tunisia, the economic situation in Malta and the outcome of the June EU Council conclusions.

Bilateral relations between Malta and France, and the 5+5 summit to be held in Malta next October were also on the agenda.

In Paris, Dr Borg will take part in the international ministerial meeting on Syria.
