A sailor on the French frigate La Motte-Picquet , which is in Malta for a brief stopover, today admitted disobeying police orders and slightly injuring an officer after being flagged for smoking at a Paceville club.

The incident happened on Monday at 3.30am when 20-year-old Joorun Enzo Jesus Patrice, who was drunk, was seen smoking at Havana.

The sailor pleaded guilty to all charges and apologised for his behavior.

He was sentenced four months in jail suspended for two years and ordered to pay an €800 fine prior to his departure from Malta.

Police inspector Elton Taliana led the prosecution while legal procurator Quinton Tanti was defence counsel.
