The European Commission, through the Commissioner for Transport and Energy, has launched the Freight Transport Logistics Action Plan and a group of universities, institutes, research centres and training organisations from EU countries recently met in Brussels to discuss and evaluate the draft document.

This event was co-ordinated by ITENE, the Packing, Transport and Logistics Research Institute of Valencia in Spain. Malta was represented by Alex Borg, director of Support and Supply Management (SSM) Group Ltd.

The experts, who form part of the European innovation network on logistics and intermodality, have evaluated the document and are now working on the proposed project.

The group has also identified one of its roles, that of advising the Commission on various issues and matters related to logistics and transport.

The next meeting will be held in Valencia next year.
