The government and the opposition have reached a level of agreement that will lead to the House's unanimous approval of the Freeports Amendment Bill which is currently being debated.

Before the continuation of the debate yesterday, Parliamentary Secretary Jason Azzopardi said that following talks with opposition MP Charles Mangion agreement had been reached on an amendment to the Bill.

The development followed Dr Mangion's assertion on Wednesday that the government was trying to bypass the laid-down system that regulated the method of transferring servitudes on public land, which included a public call for tenders or a parliamentary resolution. He added that the Bill was evidently intended to evade the transparency and accountability laid down in the principal law.
