The Freeport is refusing to pay workers it suspended because they obeyed a General Workers’ Union directive in spite of an agreement which had been reached, the GWU said.

The union said in a statement that the managing director Uwe Malezki and human resources manager Duncan Borg Myatt were now refusing to attend a conciliation meeting with the Employment and Industrial Relations director.

The GWU said it would not tolerate such arrogant behaviour and would take action to safeguard the interests of workers in the coming days.
