The Labour Party was proposing free wi-fi in every locality, something which already existed in most, Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi said this morning.

Speaking during a seminar for the PN's 198 local candidates, Dr Gonzi said that on February 16 the government published a call for offers for interested companies who wanted to provide fibre optic internet to homes.

During the seminar, at which the PN's electoral programme for the council elections was presented, Dr Gonzi urged Nationalist councillors to always put people at the centre of politics.

Their priorities, he said, should be for candidates have to leave the party's fingerprint on their locality by working in the interest of families.

Councils, the Prime Minister said, would find the support of a Nationalist central government, which has given councils the tools to work with. In spite of the financial situation, the government had given councils €160 million over the past four years.

He urged councils to continue investing in projects and criticised the PL that PL led Mosta council which had failed to apply for funds put at their disposal.
