People with hearing impairment in Gozo are to be trained in Maltese sign language following an agreement between the Parliamentary Secretary for the Disabled and the Gozo Association for the Deaf.

The course will start Saturday and will mean more disabled people are given the means to communicate, Parliamentary Secretary Justyne Caruana said.

Dr Caruana said that the government had put forward a Bill to recognise Maltese sign language and is planning to introduce interpreters through Aġenzija Sapport.
