Italian Foreign Minister Franco Frattini said today that there was need for an immediate ceasefire in Libya.

Speaking on Canale 5, he said the Libyans needed a ceasefire and a future of freedom and democracy.

He said the rebels would agree to a ceasefire and a future of democracy and rights.

The real objective, he said, was ensuring a proper transition 'post Gaddafi'.
