A strike at Frankfurt Airport is to be extended into tomorrow in a dispute over pay and working conditions for ground workers, a union has said.

The GdF union, which represents air traffic control employees, said workers overseeing operations on the tarmac will walk off the job from 3pm to 10pm local time (2pm-9pm GMT) today, and from 8am to 10pm (7am-9pm GMT) tomorrow.

Frankfurt is Germany's busiest airport and continental Europe's second-busiest.

GdF is engaged in a dispute with airport operator Fraport over pay and working conditions for some 200 ground workers.
