Kenneth De Martino, Chief Scout writes:

It was with great sadness that we heard of the death of Frank Miggiani. Our sympathy goes to his family at this sad and stressful time.

By profession, Frank was a pharmacist and after graduating in 1940, he began his career at St Luke’s Hospital. He eventually reached the position of chief pharmacist and in 2008 was awarded a medal for his services to this profession.

Frank dedicated most of his spare time to the Scout Movement. He spent many years working his way through the ranks, and as an adult he dedicated many hours to training young members in his care. He was Cub Scout leader with the 1st Sliema Scout Group and he was known by his Cub name ‘Akela’.

I owe much of my love of the movement to Frank. I was fortunate enough to be one of his Cub Scouts. He was very active within the group, organising activities for his Cubs in an effort to pass on to them those life skills so valuable to growing boys.

He introduced the ‘Mother and Son’ and ‘Father and Son’ camps in the early 1970s.

He was well-known in Scout circles and there are many men today who will be sad to hear of his passing.

Apart from working with the Cub Scout pack of Sliema, he was also appointed commissioner for the south district – a post he held for many years. He was much loved and respected by the district and they were very sad and disappointed when advancing years made it necessary for him to retire.

The district introduced the Frank Miggiani Shield, which was their way of saying thank you for all his hard work and to keep his memory alive.

He lived up to the Cub Scout motto of ‘Do your best’ and always encouraged the youngsters in his care to remember this throughout their lives. The Scout Movement has lost a friend and a mentor. May he rest in peace.

I am sure we can be content to know that he has ‘Gone Home’.
