The call for nominations closes this evening.

Writing on his blog, he thanked those people who elected him from the fifth district five years ago, saying it had been a privilege and an honour to serve in parliament.

Dr Debono renewed his calls for reforms of the Constitution and parliamentary practice as well as the sectors of home affairs and justice and said he hopes those calls would be heeded in the new legislature.

He renewed his attacks on the PN and said he hoped he would never have anything to do with it in the future, saying it had lost every semblance of a political party.

He also indicated he intends to spend some time practising in Italy, while keeping his Malta practice.

Dr Debono, who voted against the Budget last November, had been banned from contesting on the Nationalist Party ticket.
