Francis Zammit Dimech has confirmed to the Times of Malta that he will contest the casual election for European Parliament

The election will fill the seat vacated by Therese Comodini Cachia, who was elected to the Maltese national parliament.

Candidates who contested the European Parliamentary election in May, 2014 who were not elected may present their nominations – with Dr Zammit Dimech mathematically in pole position.

Dr Zammit contested eight general elections in Malta but failed to get elected in 2017.

Nominations for the MEP elections are being cast between Tuesday and Saturday.

The counting of votes will take place on Tuesday July 18.
