Francis Xavier Giorgio is the winner of the 19th edition of the Senior of the Year Award organised by the Secretariat for the Elderly and Community Care.

Mr Giorgio is very active in the field of voluntary work and a living example of active aging and solidarity between generations.  He works hard for the Sliema youths to have a decent place where to meet and takes care of the environment and the maintenance of Villa Skinas where Catholic Action meetings are held.

Besides organising mass every first week of the month, he also organises social events for youths.

He was presented with the award yesterday evening by Parliamentary Secretary Mario Galea.

The ceremony also included a special award that was presented to Sr Rose Casapinta, who has worked in Sri Lanka for 20 years, in Congo for 10 and in Tripoli for eight.

She also worked as a nursing tutor at St Luke’s Hospital and opened the Nursing Home of the Sisters of the Franciscan Mission of Mary.

The Premju Anzjan tas-Sena celebrates the achievement of a senior citizen in the field of voluntary work, and is given to that person whose character and activity is an inspiration to others.

The ceremony was held under the patronage of President George Abela at Kullegg Marija Regina, Boys Secondary, Mosta.
