France flyhalf François Trinh-Duc has promised that his team will play a more expansive game in tomorrow's Six Nations match against Italy.

This change of strategy is "a strong wish" from Emile Ntamack, assistant coach in charge of the backline, the 23-year-old France playmaker said.

France struggled to a 26-20 win over Wales in Cardiff last time out despite leading 20-0 at half-time.

"Ntamack wants us to play more, to be less restrictive. During the second half in Cardiff, we satisfied ourselves with kicking the ball back into their half instead of counter-attacking," Trinh-Duc added.

"We mustn't look down on the Italians and run the ball just for the sake of running it but maybe there will be more opportunities if we move them around and if we play more on the wings."

Ntamack confirmed the video analysis of the Wales games had shown France nearly lost because of a lack of ambition and needed to improve despite being the only unbeaten team in this year's Six Nations after wins over Scotland, Ireland and Wales.

"We all saw that there were moves worth trying and we didn't do it. OK, we went to Cardiff to win the game and we did it but to set up our own game we also need purpose and creativity," he said.

The former international fullback and wing stressed that he did not want France to "play a fandango game", referring to a fast dance common in the Basque area.

"We have talented players but it's not enough they have to show it. What we want to do is to unsettle our opponents, to go further than against Wales while sticking to our strong points, defence and set-pieces," he said.

France host Italy tomorrow eyeing their first Six Nations trophy since 2007 and face England next Saturday at the Stade de France.
