The police are today due to arraign a fourth foreigner in connection with the theft of a large number of items from a jewellery shop in Victoria on August 26.

Three Romanians have already been arraigned, having been brought to Malta on the strength of an international arrest warrant.

The theft took place at Tresor D’Or in Palm Street when members of a gang distracted a shop assistant while the rest bagged whatever jewellery items they could reach.

The theft was discovered after they left the shop, but the police quickly circulated images seen on CCTV.

A 52-year-old man and two women aged 48 and 59 were subsequently arrested in Turkey.

The man admitted the charges and was imprisoned for two years and fined €1,000.

The women pleaded not guilty and were held in remand.
