Four people were injured,two seriously, in a traffic accident in St Paul’s Bay yesterday.

The police said the incident happened in Xemxija Hill when a Nissan Micra collided with a Peugeot Expert.

The Nissan was being driven by a 32-year-old Somali who lives in Żebbuġ, Gozo.

He escaped unhurt, but his four passengers, aged 19, 20, 21 and 27, all Gozo residents were taken to hospital by ambulance. Two suffered serious injuries.

In a separate incident, a man was arrested near Corradino on Christmas Day after a police sergeant was slightly injured when the driver of a car with an expired road licence drove over his foot.

The incident happened in Regional Road, St Julian’s, on Thursday at 10pm.

The man, driving a Tata, was asked by police to stop in Triq Sant’ Andrija, St Julian’s, but drove on. The officer followed the car on his motorbike and managed to stop the driver in Regional Road.

However, he sped off, driving over the officer’s foot in the process.
