Three men and a woman have been arrested by the Drugs Squad after one of the man arrived at the Malta International Airport on Sunday night from Brussels, in possession of 800 grams of heroin, the police said yesterday.

The passenger is a 24-year-old born in Nigeria and holding a Spanish identity card.

The police added that in connection with this case, it was holding another two men born in Nigeria, aged 45 and 31 and a 26-year-old woman whose nationality was not divulged.

In a separate case, this instance on Saturday, the Drug Squad held a Brazilian national at the airport when he arrived from Rome at about 1 p.m.

Investigations revealed that the man, Hiran Araujo, was carrying 26 capsules containing about 260 grammes of cocaine. See also law report on page 6.

In a third case, this time last Friday, the police said members of the Drug Squad were involved in a car chase trailing a man on whom they found 300 grammes of heroin in 30 capsules.

A 31-year-old man from Kirkop has been remanded in custody over this find.

According to the police, about 3.30 p.m. members of the Drug Squad noted a man who is known to the police acting suspiciously while driving a Mercedes near Bulebel.

When the police tried to stop him, he rushed off damaging the car he was driving and a police vehicle.

The police gave chase with the man racing towards Għaxaq but he was stopped at Żejtun where once again he caused more damage to the car he was in and to another police vehicle in the incident.
