Four Nadur carnival revellers were today remanded in custody after pleading not guilty to assaulting three police officers early on Sunday morning.

Martin Cachia, 53, of Pembroke and Dragomir Ivanovich, 37, Kevin Micallef, 43 and Daniel Tonna, 28, all of Qawra, denied assaulting police constables Raymond Buttigieg and Alfred Grech and Sgt Michael Portelli.

They were also charged with seriously injuring PC Grech, breaching the peace and being drunk in public.

Mr Micallef and Mr Ivanovich alone were charged with driving while under the influence of alcohol while Mr Cachia and Mr Micallef alone were charged with relapsing.

The incident happened at 2.30 a.m. in Triq Xandriku.
