Four people were caught with illegally modified weapons and ammunition at sea and another four with drugs by the army this weekend.

A boat was intercepted on Saturday afternoon, some 20 metres outside Rinella. The four men on board were found to be carrying four modified shotguns, a bird caller, lead pellets of an illegal size and magazines that had been tampered with to take more cartridges.

Another four people, two men and two women, were caught with drugs on Saturday night in a roadblock, the AFM said. The driver was seen slowing down when he saw the soldiers and dumping what turned out to be sachets of powder and pills.

As he reached the roadblock he was also seen fumbling with another sachet of powder which he then swallowed.

The driver, a 36-year-old from Cospicua, resisted arrest.
