Two women were seriously injured this evening in a three-car crash at the Paceville junction on Regional Road, police said in a statement. 

The crash happened at around 8.30pm. 

The crash involved an Opel Astra driven by a 22-year-old Naxxar man with two young women in his car, a Toyota Yaris driven by a 43-year-old woman from Pembroke and a senior Portuguese citizen behind the wheel of a Jaguar XF.

In a statement, the police said the two women passengers were seriously injured while the Portuguese driver and the 22-year-old Opel driver were slightly injured. 

Civil Protection Department rescuers had to free  the two women from their car.
