Forty trees were donated by Land Parliamentary Secretary Jason Azzopardi to offset the environmental impact of the paper he used last year during the general election campaign.

Dr Azzopardi said the number of trees he bought out of his own initiative to offset his carbon footprint generated from 30,000 brochures and letters, as scientifically calculated by Tree For You. This exercise takes into account a number of details such as the thickness of the paper used and the type of printing.

The trees are endemic to Malta and would be immediately replaced should they die or get diseased. They were donated to the local councils in his district, namely Tarxien, Paola, Għaxaq and Gudja.

More trees were planted by Dr Azzopardi last April at the Karl Chircop Gardens in Sta Luċija.
