January 12 - 13, Small and medium sized enterprises in the defence sector, Stockholm

Directorate General Enterprise is organising seven conferences on "Strengthening European small and medium sized enterprises in the defence sector" in different member states until March 2010.

Conferences will take place in Stockholm, Madrid, Budapest, Athens, and Warsaw between January and March 2010 with participation of industry and particularly SME from ministries of defence, ministries of economics, European and national industrial associations and from EDA.

January 13 - 14, Conference on the Challenges of Education and Innovation, Berlin

The conference will provide a special forum for eligible researchers to build contacts with their peers from across Europe. The conference will concentrate on the challenges of education and innovation in the central and eastern European countries. The focus will mainly be on innovation processes in agriculture linked to the spread of knowledge in rural areas.

January 20, Conference on Competence Research and Innovation Centres, Stockholm

When adapting to global competitiveness, Europe faces both challenges and opportunities. The event will focus on the opportunities and present strategies to meet the challenges.

January 20 - 22, 5th ETSI Security Workshop

The annual European Telecommunications Standards Institute Security Workshop will bring together international Standards Developing Organisations and security experts to discuss recent developments, share knowledge, identify gaps and co-ordinate on future actions and work areas. The workshop will include overviews of the work being done in the area of security across standards and technical bodies, along with presentations from major organisations involved in security initiatives.

This annual event will take place in ETSI Headquarters in Sophia Antipolis, France from January 20 to 22, 2010.

January 25 - 28, Interconnection World Forum, London

Some of the key issues that will be addressed over the course of the four days include: how are different incumbent operators around the global enabling access to their infrastructure; what is the best regulatory framework for NGN and IP Interconnection; how is the European Commission's recommendation regarding MTRs impacting operator revenue and investment; what settlement agreements are being used around the globe in order to increase interconnection traffic.

January 27 - 31, World Economic Forum Annual Meeting 2010, Switzerland

The recent global economic crisis reveals that significant opportunities remain to catalyse greater global cooperation in addressing current challenges and mitigating future risks.

The World Economic Forum's 40th Annual Meeting in 2010 will address this opportunity and, in preparation, the Forum has launched the Global Redesign Initiative, an unprecedented global multi-stakeholder dialogue to help establish processes and structures of global cooperation in the 21st century.
