Former Nationalist Party general secretary Paul Borg Olivier, testifying in a libel case, said today that he would present the court with a list of all the promotions and transfers that were made by the current Labour government.

The libel suit was instituted by Civil Liberties Minister Helena Dalli, who claimed that some 20,000 anonymous leaflets, which had been sent by the PN, blatantly misinterpreted her words by warning recipients of potential transfers if Labour was elected. The leaflets were sent in December 2012, during the electoral campaign.

At one point during proceedings, Dr Borg Olivier said that he would present a full list of all the transfers that had been made since Labour came to power.

He made the comment as he reacted to lawyer Toni Abela, representing Dr Dalli, when he asked Dr Borg Olivier to exhibit all anonymous leaflets issued by the PN.

Dr Abela further stated that the PN had tried to hide the fact that they had sent the leaflets but were then forced to admit they did after a press conference where a journalist from the Labour Party’s station questioned the PN about them.

Taking the witness stand, Dr Borg Olivier said that the leaflet was based on what Dr Dalli had said during a press conference and on her track record because she had been found guilty of political discrimination against Angela Callus during the Sant administration.

Also testifying, Nationalist MP Marthese Portelli, who was the president of the PN executive at the time, said that she was asked by a journalist about the leaflets but did not know if the PN had sent them out.

She was not part of the electoral campaign administration but following the press conference she verified the information and phoned the journalist to confirm the leaflet had been sent by the PN.

The case continues.
