The former Mayor of San Ġwann was this morning conditionally discharged for three months after a court found him guilty of defamation.

Giuseppe Borg, 67 from San Ġwann was found guilty of defaming Emmanuel Wally Farrugia who was employed as the contracts manager at the San Ġwann local council on March 24 of this year. Magistrate Silvio Meli said that the case did not merit a prison term and took into consideration the fact that Mr Borg had apologised to Mr Farrugia. Mr Borg was subsequently conditionally discharged for three months.

Police Inspector Angelo Gafa prosecuted.
