Mepa has given the green light for the former guard room at the entrance of St Luke's Hospital to be converted into a police station, Pieta Council said today.

It said the setting up of a police station near the Detox Centre was indispendable in order to deter people loitering in the vicinity.

The council will be resuming talks with the police on the conversion of the property into a police station.
