Former Hibs player Henry Vella passed away on Sunday, aged 75.

Vella is mostly remembered for his contribution in helping Hibernians win their first ever league championship in season 1960-61.

Playing alongside inspirational schemer Eddie Theobald, Vella was a talented winger who posed danger for opposing teams with his pace on the ball and his ability to create openings for Hibs’ leading forwards, Jimmy Mizzi, Freddie Church and Victor Cassar.

In season 1960-61, Vella formed part of the strong Hibs squad that topped Division One with 25 points from 14 matches, three ahead of second-placed Valletta. They also managed to reach the FA Trophy final but lost 2-0 to Floriana.
