Foreign Affairs Ministry officials have attended 720 meetings in European institutions since Malta’s membership in the EU.

The ministry said in a statement that its role had changed substantially since Malta joined the union.

In the past five years, the ministry signed around 21 double taxation andanother 100 agreements. It organised 10 commercial delegations and assisted 4,000 Maltese who sought help from embassies abroad. More than 35,000 contacts were made between Maltese citizens who worked or lived abroad with embassies or consulates.

The ministry also facilitated 64 scholarships financed by third countries, it said in a statement.
