Between January 1 and April 30 this year the Ministry of Foreign Affairs awarded €80,676.71 in direct orders for various reasons.

The biggest outlay, €26,052.94, went to cover legal services, consultation and arbitration for the purchase of property in Misurata, Libya. Following up was a direct order of €10,179.79 for the purchase of photocopiers and a service and maintenance agreement for three years for the Maltese High Commission in London.

The transportation of personal effects from New York to Beijing for the First Counsellor cost €10,070.45.

The sum of €9,480 was spent on flight services for an official ministerial delegation to visit San Paolo on a site visit to identify premises.

€8,573.18 went for the 12-month extension of a Smartnet licence for various network firewalls.

The removal of several “hazardous” trees at the ambassador’s official residence in Washington accounted for €8,241.55.

Finally, €8,078.80 went for a five-year lease of a multi-functional photocopier for the Rome embassy.

Foreign Minister George Vella gave the information in reply to a parliamentary question by Carm Mifsud Bonnici.
