Foreign Minister Tonio Borg will today participate in a meeting of the Foreign Affairs Council of EU Foreign Ministers which will discuss the situation in Syria. A decision will be taken on the adoption of new sanctions against the Syrian regime, targeting additional entities, including Syria's central bank, and individuals associated with or funding the crackdown;

The meeting will also conduct a political assessment of the dialogue between Serbia and Kosovo in preparation for the debate and the decision that is to be taken by the General Affairs Council on February 28, on whether to grant the status of candidate country to Serbia, which France supports.
