Foreign Minister Tonio Borg is in Beijing where he has had talks with Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi.

The two sides discussed ways to improve bilateral relations, including a new double taxation agreement and mutual recognition of education qualifications.

Dr Borg welcomed the fact that trade exchanges were growing. In 2008 trade between the two countries was double what it was in 2005.

Mr Yang noted that Malta was the only euro zone country to have seen an increase in trade with China during 2009, with a 9.7% increase being registered.
