The MEP leading European Parliament investigations into the Panama Papers has written to Prime Minister Joseph Muscat urging him to "use his authority" to get Keith Schembri to face a grilling in Strasbourg.
Pana Committee chairman Werner Langen wants the Prime Minister's chief of staff to appear before the committee on 18 May. Earlier this week, the German MEP vented his frustration about Mr Schembri's failure to cooperate with the committee.
Mr Schembri declined to meet with committee members when they visited Malta in February, instead dispatching a "post officer" to hand Dr Langen a letter declining the invitation as the Pana committee chairman strolled down the streets of Valletta.
"This is no April Fool's joke," said Alternattiva Demokratika chairman Arnold Cassola. "People who have nothing to hide should not run away, as Keith Schembri has been doing for over a year".
