Serie A side Catania kicked off their training camp in Malta on a high note after they beat Torino 2-0 to win the first Trofeo Portomosalive at a rainswept National Stadium this evening.

Argentine striker Maxi Lopez put Catania ahead on 17 minutes, finishing a solo move with a fine strike from inside the box.

Catania sealed their win when Mariano Izco scored their second goal two minutes from time.

Torino had beaten local side Qormi 3-1 in the first 45-minute game to book their place in the final.

Mirco Atenucci scored a brace and Simone Verdi made it 3-0 for the Serie B leaders before Abubakar Bello-Osagie reduced the deficit for Qormi when converting a penalty.

Antenucci had a great opportunity to make it a hat-trick when Catania were awarded a penalty on 28 minutes but his low drive was parried away by Matthew Farrugia, the Qormi goalkeeper.

Hibs made a good start in their game against Catania, going close with efforts from Edison Luis and Andrew Cohen but Catania shattered the Paolites' hopes with two goals in two minutes.

Alejandro Gomez, who had just come on as a substitute, opened the scoring with a crisp shot and Alfredo Donnarumma, another substitute, wrapped up Catania's win with a rising drive.

Lys Gomis, Torino's third goalkeeper, guarded Hibs' goal.

The third place match was an all-Maltese clash as Hibs took on Qormi. A deflected Bjorn Kristensen goal and a Clayton Failla penalty handed Hibs a 2-0 victory.
