A Spanish football fan who ran onto the pitch before the kick-off of the World Cup final and tried to put a hat on the trophy has been slapped with a fine.

Jaume Marquet Cot, who calls himself "Jimmy Jump", was fined €210 by a Johannesburg court late on Monday for trespassing and attempted theft of the trophy.

Cot, a habitual pitch invader whose exploits are detailed on his website, was not trying to steal the trophy but place a Spanish-style hat on it to convey a message of freedom, a friend said.

Cot was punched in the face by a security guard and escorted off the pitch when he made a mad dash for the trophy 10 minutes before Sunday's World Cup final.

Balotelli better in England - Ancelotti

Chelsea coach Carlo Ancelotti believes the Premier League would bring out the best in Mario Balotelli.

The Inter striker has been linked with Manchester United and Manchester City. When asked if the 19-year-old would be a good fit for Alex Ferguson's squad, Ancelotti said: "It's a team that has a great tradition and brings out the characteristics of this type of player."

Ancelotti says Balotelli could be a more prominent figure in a Premier League side.

He said: "I think so. Here the atmosphere is different. I think a player with this type of character would be better suited here than with respect to Italy."

Spain success fuels Cuellar ambitions

Aston Villa defender Carlos Cuellar admitted that watching Spain's World Cup success has given him even more determination to force his way into their future plans.

Cuellar watched his country's 1-0 triumph over Holland in a Birmingham bar and he admits it will be tough to break into a team which conceded only two goals in seven matches in South Africa.

"I have had contact with the Spanish federation during the past year," said Cuellar. "It was always going to be tough to break into the squad because they won Euro 2008.

"But I want to play for Spain... I will give it everything, try my best and have the same intensity and determination to try and achieve it."

Cahill pulled out of full training

Everton manager David Moyes said he has withdrawn Australia star Tim Cahill from full training to help him recover from the World Cup before the Premier League resumes.

Moyes said he would have preferred not to take Cahill on the three-match promotional tour, which includes games against Sydney FC, Melbourne Heart and Brisbane Roar.

"I'd have preferred Tim to make sure he had a good holiday," Moyes said. "We've not asked him to train, just a little bit before the game to keep ticking over.

"I've just got to make sure I don't feel the effects of Tim having no holiday in six or seven weeks' time."

All Whites coach rejects offers

New Zealand coach Ricki Herbert declared he has rejected a host of offers to move overseas.

Herbert confirmed he had been tempted by big money contracts from European, Asian and African clubs after the All Whites drew with Italy, Paraguay and Slovakia to finish one point away from qualifying for the last 16.

"One or two were hard to turn down but I'm very comfortable with my decision," he said.

He was possibly the lowest paid manager at the World Cup, only earning about $35,000 a year as All Whites coach on top of his salary as manager of the Phoenix in the Australian A-league.

"At the end of the day it's not all about money for me," Herbert said.

Camoranesi linked with Olympiakos

Tuttosport reported that Juventus winger Mauro Camoranesi is on his way to joining Olympiakos in the Greek Super League.

Negotiations started after Juventus director general Beppe Marotta informed Camoranesi's agent Sergio Fortunato earlier this summer that the club intends to part with his client.

Tuttosport said Olympiakos have agreed to pay Juve €2m for the Italy international.

Fortunato recently said that Camoranesi wouldn't be against the transfer, but it's thought that talks will revolve mainly around his personal terms.

However, talks may stall if Camoranesi asks Juventus for a golden handshake to pay off the remainder of his contract in Turin.

Liverpool play down Torres injury

Liverpool are hopeful that the groin injury suffered by Spanish striker Fernando Torres in Sunday's World Cup final is not as serious as was first feared.

The 26-year-old, who missed the end of the 2009-10 season with a knee injury, suffered the injury just before the end of the 1-0 win over the Netherlands.

But Liverpool doctor Peter Brukner said: "We've been in touch with the Spanish medical team and they don't think it's too serious.

"We can't say too much more at the moment. Some of the Liverpool medical staff will go to Madrid this week and organise his rehab. At this stage we don't think it's too serious."

Torres has endured an injury-plagued season at Anfield although he finished as Liverpool's top scorer with 22 goals in all competitions.
