The KNVB Beker final between Ajax and Feyenoord will be played over two legs because of fears over hooliganism.

The first leg will take place on April 25 in Amsterdam, with the return leg on May 6, and away supporters will not be allowed into either stadium.

In 2008, the mayors of Amsterdam and Rotterdam banned opposing fans from visiting their respective cities because of past violence between rival supporters.

The final had been due to take place at Feyenoord's De Kuip stadium, the traditional home of the showpiece, with 10,000 supporters from each side present, but concerns were raised after threats of violence appeared on websites.

Bayern will not file Lyon protest

Bayern Munich have decided not to file a protest against the French league's decision to postpone a match involving their Champions League semi-final opponents Lyon.

The game against Monaco, which was scheduled to be played on April 24 between the first and second legs of the Champions League semi, will now be played on May 12. Lyon had requested the change in order to get more time to prepare for the Bayern clash.

Bayern coach Louis van Gaal had said late on Thursday the decision to reschedule Lyon's match until after their April 27 return leg was not fair play.

Advocaat in talks for Russia job

Dick Advocaat has confirmed he is in talks to replace compatriot Guus Hiddink as Russia coach, it was reported yesterday, a day after Belgian authorities announced his resignation as national coach.

"I don't think it would be proper for me to comment further until we agree all contract details with the Russian FA but I must say their interest in me is a big honour for me," Advocaat was quoted as saying.

"Let's see what happens next."

The 62-year-old Dutchman took charge of the Belgium team in October last year with the goal of securing their qualification for Euro 2012, but resigned after just over six months.

Belgium's football association said it would seek legal advice to determine what action to take.

Benitez rejected Juve in January

Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez turned down an approach from Juventus in January but has not been contacted by the Italian club since, according to his agent.

There have been reports this week suggesting Benitez will take the Juve reins in the summer. However, his agent Manuel Garcia Quilon said: "I have not received any interest (recently) from Juventus for Rafa Benitez.

"I have received interest from Italian clubs for players but not for a coach.

"Juve approached us back in January but we told them that the coach would not be leaving Liverpool this season."

Liverpool up for sale, owners say

Liverpool went up for sale yesterday after American owners Tom Hicks and George Gillett appointed Barclays Capital to find a buyer.

Hicks and Gillett said in a joint statement that being owners of Liverpool for the past three years had been a "rewarding and exciting" experience.

"Having grown the club this far we have now decided together to look to sell to owners committed to take Liverpool through its next level of growth," they said.

The US businessmen have faced intense scrutiny from Liverpool fans with protests for their removal a frequent occurrence at Anfield after ladening the club with huge debts.

Rooney could make United derby date

Alex Ferguson confirmed yesterday that Wayne Rooney could return from injury in Manchester United's derby clash at Manchester City today.

Rooney missed last weekend's draw at Blackburn after aggravating an ankle problem in the second leg of United's Champions League quarter-final against Bayern Munich.

However, Rooney has returned to training this week and Ferguson admitted the 24-year-old will be in the squad to face City if he suffers no reaction.

"He has done some work over the last couple of days and we will see how he is for the derby," said Ferguson, who also confirmed Ryan Giggs and Rio Ferdinand have an outside chance of being involved at Eastlands.

Wenger refutes latest talk on Cesc

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger insists Cesc Fabregas will not be sold to Barcelona regardless of any meetings between the two clubs' directors.

Gunners chairman Peter Hill-Wood claimed Barcelona had given an assurance that they were not interested in signing Fabregas and also claimed the Spanish midfielder wouldn't get into the European champions' team anyway.

But the Catalan club denied brokering a deal with Arsenal not to try and bring Fabregas back to the Nou Camp, once again raising the possibility of a big-money bid.

"We have not been in contact with Barcelona," Wenger said.

"I don't want to sell any of our players. We want to keep this team together. I can't understand the persistent campaign to get English players to Spain."
