Ligue 1 club Olympique Marseille want to sign Mauro Camoranesi next summer according to reports in the French press yesterday.

With the Italy international's contract due to expire in June next year, Juventus could be tempted to put Camoranesi, 33, on the market.

Many pundits in Italy are predicting an exodus of players from Juventus at the end of the season as the club's bosses intend to make wholesale changes following a disappointing campaign.

Marseille are said to be keen on Camoranesi who already worked under coach Didier Deschamps during Juve's only season in Serie B four years ago.

Mascherano has praise for Benitez

Midfielder Javier Mascherano has praised Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez for making him a better player.

The Reds boss last week was criticised by winger Albert Riera for his communication skills and handling of players. That outburst appears certain to see the Spain international farmed out on loan in the next fortnight to a club in Russia, where the transfer window does not close until early next month.

"All managers have different ways of working," said the 25-year-old Mascherano.

"Rafa is totally different from the other managers I've had and I can now say I'm a better player from when I arrived here... that's down to Rafa and his staff."

Fans to vote on man of the match

Fans from across the globe rather than FIFA officials will determine the man-of-the-match awards at this year's World Cup in South Africa.

The technical study group of FIFA have until now selected the best player from each game, but for the first time it will be left to online and mobile text voting.

The innovation is part of a digital media push unveiled by World Cup sponsor Anheuser-Busch, the world's largest beer company whose name is attached to the man-of-the-match awards.

Through promotions, fans will be chosen to present the trophies to players at the 64 matches.

Veteran Giggs hints at Wales return

Wales midfielder Ryan Giggs has hinted he could be willing to come out of international retirement to help his country cover for the loss of injured winger Aaron Ramsey.

Giggs, 36, has not played for Wales since 2007 after deciding he needed extra rest to prolong his time at Manchester United.

But Giggs has a reduced role at United these days as he enters the twilight of his career. And with the Euro 2012 qualifying campaign looming and Wales without Ramsey due to a broken leg, Giggs admits he may be prepared to return to international duty.

"It is something that I would have to talk about with (Wales coach) John Toshack and Alex Ferguson. But, at this stage, I wouldn't dismiss the idea," he said.

Nani signs United deal to 2014

Manchester United's Portuguese winger Nani has signed a new four-year contract with the Premier League champions, the club said yesterday.

"The coaching staff have taught me so much about the game and I'm playing alongside some of the best players in the world.

"I'm looking forward to winning many more trophies with this team," the 23-year-old told the club website (www.manutd.com).

Nani, who joined from Sporting in 2007, will stay at Old Trafford until at least June 2014.

The tricky winger has enjoyed his best form so far this season and will be included in Portugal's World Cup squad for the finals in South Africa which start on June 11.

Palermo to retain quality players

Palermo supremo Maurizio Zamparini has assured the fans that the club's best players will not be transferred in summer.

Zamparini has just concluded talks with striker Edinson Cavani to renew his contract, fending off the overtures from Inter and Juventus who were after the Uruguay international's signature.

Similar negotiations are now underway to retain Simon Kjaer and Javier Pastore, among the most influential players this season for the high-flying Sicilians.

Zamparini said: "We will qualify for the Champions League, I promise. I have doubled Kjaer's wages. I now hope that he accepts a contract renewal. I have just done it with Cavani, fixing a buy-out clause worth €25m.

"Soon, there will also be a new contract for Pastore."

Sevilla appoint Alvarez as coach

Sevilla have appointed Antonio Alvarez as coach to replace the sacked Manolo Jimenez on a contract until the end of this season.

Jimenez was dismissed after his side drew at home with basement team Xerez on Tuesday and Sevilla have tapped Alvarez, a member of the club's technical staff, after an attempt to lure Luis Aragones was rejected by the former Spain coach.

The Andalusians are fifth in La Liga and the main task for Alvarez, previously assistant coach under Jimenez and former bosses Joaquin Caparros and Juande Ramos, will be to secure one of Spain's four spots in next season's Champions League.

His first match in charge will be tomorrow at Villarreal.
