Celtic manager Tony Mowbray says winding-up Rangers will form no part of his strategy as the Hoops look to cut into their arch-rivals 10 point lead at the top of the Scottish Premier League table.

Celtic will try to reduce Rangers' advantage away to St Mirren today when the Gers have a Scottish Cup quarter-final against Dundee United.

But Mowbray said: "I won't sit here and try to play any psychological games.

"I am only interested in my own team trying to win their games.

"I can't affect what goes on elsewhere."

Lippi's players at Juve face the axe

The players Italy coach Marcello Lippi suggested Juventus to buy in the transfer season are set to face the exit at the Turin club.

Lippi, 61, was mentioned with a return to Juventus after the World Cup but it seems the club's bosses will be opting for a different strategy and the likes of Fabio Cannavaro, Fabio Grosso and Felipe Melo are all set to be offloaded in summer.

La Gazzetta dello Sport said Cannavaro has no chance of having his contract renewed and Juve are hoping that Melo moves elsewhere after the World Cup.

There is even talk that a bid of around £32m for Gigi Buffon would not be rejected, such is the need for funds to radically change the existing squad.

Palacios happy at Tottenham

Tottenham midfielder Wilson Palacios has played down reports he wants to move to a bigger club.

The 25-year-old was recently linked with a move to Real Madrid but he claims he is focused on reaching the Champions League with Spurs.

Palacios said: "The truth is I'm very, very happy here. My team-mates have really helped me to settle in. We have worked very hard to get to fourth position.

"I think if we keep on working hard we can achieve what we want. We are in a great position and we are all very concentrated on keeping that fourth spot."

Cole: there's no offer on the table

Talks between Joe Cole and Chelsea over a new contract have broken down, according to the England midfielder. The 28-year-old's current deal expires in the summer at which point he could leave Stamford Bridge on a free transfer.

However, Cole is keen to sign a new deal with the Blues.

"I've never spoken publicly about contracts before," he said.

"I don't think contracts should really be discussed mid-season. I have always signed mine in the summer in the past. But this time it's different. We can't seem to find common ground and it's distracting. At the moment there is no offer on the table.

"I still hope to talk in summer."

Loew calls off training camp

Germany coach Joachim Loew has cancelled a training camp with the national team next month in order to accommodate the wishes of the Bundesliga clubs at what will be a key period in the season.

Loew intended to summon a large squad of players in mid-April to assess their fitness over three days before handing his preliminary squad list for the World Cup to FIFA.

However, he has now agreed to forego what would be the final opportunity to meet with his potential squad members before announcing his final 23-man selection in May.

Loew said: "It is pleasing to see Bayern, Wolfsburg and Hamburg still playing in Europe and that is certainly an additional burden for them."

Cagliari fans get money back

Serie A club Cagliari have kept to their word and refunded tickets to the fans following their 2-0 upset at home to Lazio.

Club owner Massimo Cellino had made the pledge before Sunday's match, telling loyal Cagliari fans they would get their money back if there was another defeat.

"Cagliari Calcio have kept their word and announce it will be possible to have your ticket money reimbursed for Cagliari-Lazio," a statement said.

"You will be reimbursed the cash sum of the ticket, but not the booking fee. Excluded are free tickets or those provided by match sponsors."

Cagliari have picked up just one point from their last four games.

Aurelio and Skrtel set for 'Pool return

Liverpool's long injury list could be slashed early next month with the return to action of defenders Martin Skrtel and Fabio Aurelio, coach Rafael Benitez said.

Aurelio sustained an injury to his right thigh in the 2-1 win over Blackburn on February 28 and his absence has been a major headache for Benitez as it has left him with only Emiliano Insua at left-back.

Centre-back Skrtel's absence has not been noticed as much as Benitez has been able to call on a combination of Jamie Carragher, Daniel Agger and Sotirios Krygiakos.

"Both are still injured and will need some time, but it's only a question of a couple of weeks. It depends for each one," said Benitez.
