England defender Joleon Lescott has suffered a hamstring injury and will have a scan to determine the extent of the problem, Manchester City boss Roberto Mancini said.

Lescott picked up the problem during the warm-up of the 2-1 Premier League win at Fulham and is the latest player to give Fabio Capello a fitness scare.

"Joleon had a problem before the game in the warm-up, a muscle," said Mancini.

"I think he can't play against Everton. At the moment I don't know how long he'll be out. He'll have a scan."

Fabregas unfazed by Barca tie

Arsenal captain Cesc Fabregas maintains the Gunners would have had to face Barcelona sooner or later if they are to fulfil their dream of becoming the best in Europe.

The tie certainly captures the imagination as former captain Thierry Henry will face his old club for the first time since heading to the Nou Camp three years ago while Fabregas, 22, is set to line up against the team with which he was once a trainee.

Fabregas, though, maintained: "If you want to win this competition, you have to beat everyone.

"If we had been drawn against Bordeaux or Lyon we would have taken it the same way. Barcelona is a great team, but we always go with the same mentality and that is to win."

Hat-trick Messi hits new heights

Lionel Messi hit a second successive La Liga hat-trick, and his eighth goal in a week, as the magical Argentine inspired Barcelona to a 4-2 win at Real Zaragoza on Sunday night.

Messi has now scored 11 of Barcelona's last 14 goals, virtually single-handedly keeping the champions neck-and-neck with Real Madrid at the top of the table.

It was his fifth career hat-trick for Barcelona and followed his triple in the 3-0 win over Valencia and double strike in the 4-0 win over Stuttgart which ensured a spot in the Champions League quarter-finals.

"Messi did well, I'll leave it for others to find the adjectives to describe him," said Barcelona coach Pep Guardiola.

Terry risks UEFA punishment

Chelsea captain John Terry has criticised the standard of UEFA's elite referees following his side's elimination from the Champions League by Inter last week.

Terry could be cited after claiming that bad refereeing contributed to Chelsea's loss not only to Inter but also to Barcelona last season.

Chelsea had two penalty appeals turned down by German referee Wolfgang Stark against Inter while Norwegian referee Tom Henning Ovrebo turned down four penalty appeals at Stamford Bridge against Barcelona last season.

"It was a bad performance by us but a really bad performance from the referee," Terry said.

"I'm not going to say the word conspiracy but I'm so frustrated by what happened."

Verbeek to quit after World Cup

Pim Verbeek will not be renewing his contract as Australia coach after this year's World Cup finals in South Africa.

Verbeek, who took charge in December 2007, guided Australia to the World Cup losing only four of his 27 matches in charge.

"It has been a very difficult decision for me after more than two years but it is time for me to look for a new challenge," Verbeek, 54, said.

"It is a good time to make this announcement so we can now focus completely on preparing everything perfectly for the upcoming World Cup," said the Dutchman, who led Australia to their highest FIFA ranking of 14 in September.

Australia have been grouped with Germany, Serbia and Ghana in Group D for the June 11-July 11 World Cup finals in South Africa.

Mancini rejects Juventus link

Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini admits he is flattered to be linked to the Juventus job but insists there is "no truth at all" to reports he has already been approached about taking over the Serie A giants.

Alberto Zaccheroni replaced the sacked Ciro Ferrara back in January and, with relations with their fans at a new low, Juve know they need to bring in a big-name manager come the summer.

Reports suggest Juve director-general Roberto Bettega broached the subject with Mancini but the former Inter coach insists he is not planning on a swift return to Italy.

"I am honoured that my name has been linked to that of Juventus but there is no truth at all," he said.

Mancini signed a three-and-a-half-year contract with City in December.

Bayern expect trio back for cup clash

Bayern Munich expect to have defender Daniel van Buyten, midfielder Franck Ribery and striker Ivica Olic back fit for tomorrow's German Cup semi-final against Bundesliga rivals Schalke.

Van Buyten was left sporting a black eye after picking up a facial injury on 80 minutes in Bayern's 2-1 defeat at Eintracht Frankfurt on Saturday, but is expected to be fit for the semi-final at Gelsenkirchen.

Ribery is also set to play having sat out the last two weeks with an ankle injury. Olic should make the trip having been a late withdrawal from Saturday's Frankfurt trip after bruising a calf in the final pre-match training run.

In today's other semi-final, Werder Bremen face second-division team FC Augsburg.
