Spain coach Vicente del Bosque is set to sign a two-year extension to remain in the post until 2012, according to RFEF president Angel Maria Villar.

Villar claims Del Bosque has agreed to prolong his stay at the helm but stressed the former Real Madrid boss has not put pen to paper on the new deal yet.

"I spoke with Del Bosque to renew his contract for two years and he expressed his agreement," Villar said.

"We did not sign the renewal with Del Bosque, but his word is important. We have full confidence in our coach because of the results achieved so far and for the performances both in official competitions and friendlies."

Our game is lame - Lahm

Philipp Lahm described Bayern Munich's form as "sick" after another disappointing display in Sunday's 1-1 draw with Bayer Leverkusen.

Germany international Lahm has already been fined once this season for questioning the club's recruitment policy. But he was not holding back following the stalemate at the Allianz Arena.

"When Bayern are seventh, you can see the confidence is cracked," he said. "We have made too many mistakes and have problems going forward.

"We have seen that our game is lame and sick."

Beckham has option to own MLS team

David Beckham has an option to own a future 20th team in Major League Soccer, the North American league's commissioner said.

"We didn't talk about this until recently but David has the option for our 20th team," Don Garber said. "That option can't be exercised until after 2011 or after he stops playing so we have got some time to figure that out."

After Sunday's loss to Salt Lake in the MLS Cup final, Beckham said he would be taking up the option and was already looking at different cities for a team.

"We've got options obviously at this stage I am not going to say what they are but it will happen eventually," Beckham said.

Henry considered quitting France

France captain Thierry Henry has admitted he considered quitting international football following the uproar caused by his part in the goal which sent Les Bleus to the World Cup finals at Ireland's expense.

Henry knows his reputation will always be marked by events in Paris last week and claims he contemplated retiring before opting to continue his France career.

The 32-year-old told L'Equipe: "Yes, I asked myself the question.

"Without the support of my family, I perhaps would not have made the same decision.

"But I will always fight to the end - even if what just happened will be engraved. You can always forgive but you cannot always forget."

Rossi replaces Zenga at Palermo

Palermo yesterday sacked coach Walter Zenga, a day after their 1-1 home draw against Sicilian rivals Catania, and appointed former Lazio boss Delio Rossi.

The Sicilian club are currently 12th in the Serie A standings but are only seven points off fourth position.

Palermo president Maurizio Zamparini, though, is known for his short patience. He bought Palermo in 2002 having previously owned Venezia since 1987 and has sacked 29 coaches during his 22 years in football.

Last season Rossi guided Lazio to the Italian Cup but then left the club at the end of the campaign due to a difficult working relationship with president Claudio Lotito.

Rossi signed a contract until the end of the season with an option for a further year.

Malesani appointed Siena coach

The number of coaching changes in Serie A this season rose to eight yesterday after rock-bottom Siena fired Marco Baroni and hired Alberto Malesani.

Baroni had only been appointed on October 29 after Marco Giampaolo was fired and his tenure lasted just three weeks and three games, two of which were defeats.

The Siena job was his first as a Serie A coach and prior to being given the opportunity he was the club's youth team coach, a role he will probably go back to.

Malesani enjoyed success earlier in his coaching career when at Parma, guiding them to an Italian Cup and UEFA Cup triumph from 1998-2001.

His appointment means he becomes the eighth coaching change this season. Baroni was the seventh coach to be fired as Luciano Spalletti had quit his job at Roma.

First Juve goal thrills Grosso

Juventus full-back Fabio Grosso has spoken of the happiness he felt on scoring his first goal for the club against Udinese on Sunday night.

The goal proved crucial as it secured a 1-0 win that kept Juve five points behind leaders Inter.

"This goal has given me so many emotions, above all because it brought us three points," Grosso, who joined Juve from Lyon last summer, said.

"It was strange - a full-back makes an assist and the other full-back scores. It's not the best of tactics. After the goal I wanted to embrace Caceres because half of the credit goes to him. This victory allows us to keep the pace with Inter."
