Former Italy striker Francesco Totti is open to the idea of coming out of international retirement, the Roma captain said yesterday.

"I will talk with coach Marcello Lippi and together we will consider my return to the national team," the 32-year-old, who retired following the World Cup win in 2006, told reporters.

"We'll see how I am during the year, both physically and psychologically."

Totti, who has been blighted by injury in recent years, also said he was close to signing a new contract.

"I will stay with Roma for another five years, until 2014," he said.

Maccarone to stay at Siena

Massimo Maccarone has turned down lucrative offers from other clubs to extend his contract at Siena.

"It is not the first time that the opportunity to sign a better contract has come along, but like every year I decided to remain here at Siena," the forward said.

"I made that decision with the utmost conviction, because at Siena I have found the calm atmosphere I needed.

"I am very tied to this city, the friends I have here, the club and those who work within it. These ties are far more important to me than any wage increase."

United fans will forgive me - Tevez

Carlos Tevez is confident he will not be viewed as a traitor by the Manchester United fans if he completes a transfer to the club's cross-city rivals.

The Argentina international turned down a permanent deal at United last month following a two-year loan deal and has since been linked with a move to wealthy Manchester City.

"If I play for Manchester City I don't think the United fans will feel I am a traitor," Tevez said. "They have to remember that at least as far as I know, I have been thrown out of the club and I have to study the best offers available.

"I gave everything for Man. United and people know that. For that reason I don't deserve the way things have ended up."

Adebayor still a keen Gunner

The agent of Arsenal striker Emmanuel Adebayor has declared that the player has no intention of leaving Arsenal this summer.

The Togo international's future has been the subject of speculation since the end of last season with reports suggesting he is unhappy in North London. Milan have confirmed their long-term interest in the player and recent reports claim they are ready to offer Mathieu Flamini in part-exchange for Adebayor.

Asked by Observer Sport whether Adebayor would be leaving Arsenal, agent Stephane Courbis said: "No, no."

When asked if the striker definitely wanted to stay at the club, Courbis added: "Yes. It's the same situation as last week."

Everton linked with Scholes

Everton are lining up a surprise bid for Manchester United's veteran midfielder Paul Scholes, British media reported yesterday.

Both the Daily Star Sunday and the Sunday Mirror linked Toffees boss David Moyes with a move for the 34-year-old Scholes.

The one-club stalwart, who has made more than 600 appearances for the champions, is no longer a first choice player for United but Sir Alex Ferguson is unlikely to allow the former England man to leave as he still sees him as an important role model and squad man.

Stoke City, Middlesbrough and Bolton Wanderers have also been linked with Scholes, who said in December 2008 that he believed he had two years left before he hung up his boots.

Da Silva close to Sunderland switch

Sunderland are on the verge of signing Paraguay defender Paulo Da Silva.

New manager Steve Bruce is looking to make the Deportivo Toluca defender his first signing since taking over at the Stadium of Light.

The 29-year-old is available on a free transfer after seeing out his contract at Toluca.

Toluca have confirmed they were unable to compete with Sunderland's offer once they made their interest known in the centre-back.

Da Silva is believed to be travelling to England this week to tie up the move.

Wolves sign defender Zubar

Wolves have signed Marseille's former France under-21 defender Ronald Zubar on a four-year deal, the club said.

The 24-year-old, who has joined for an undisclosed fee, became the sixth signing of the close season for the Premier League newcomers and their fourth in the last week.

"Ronald is a quick powerful defender who has played for the French under-21s and has got Champions League experience as well," Wolves manager Mick McCarthy was quoted as saying.

Born in Guadeloupe, centre-back Zubar started his career with Caen before moving to Marseille in 2006.
